Love the main characters in this book, and how the author developed them and revealed their secrets as the story progressed. The Mayan culture content was a bit light, but the focus of this book was romance and adventure, which the author most certainly provided! At the end of the book, I was left with a couple of questions regarding details of the plot that I would have liked the author to resolve for me, such as WHY would they have put Isabella's life in jeopardy to steal the contents of her box if she was so needed for their evil plans? But overall, a fun and easy read leaving me anxious to read the next book in the series..Product details

Secrets of a Mayan Moon An Isabella Mumphrey Adventure Volume 1 Paty Jager 9780983594376 Books Reviews
Great read. Really like Path Jagers writings. Enjoyed the details of how they escavate. Looking forward to her other books.
I've read several of Paty Jager's Westerns and loved her Spirit Trilogy. But Secrets of a Mayan Moon surprised me with its exotic setting, international characters, and adventurous plot. Her steaming romance is believable and satisfying as always. This author just keeps learning and growing, and I'm ordering her latest in this series of adventure books.
I love this book. I became very involved with the characters and could not wait to find out what would happen.. I just got the next edition in the series and I'm excited to get started on reading it!
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels or mysteries. This is a great weekend read. The characters a well developed and likeable; the plot moves along at a good pace; and there are several twists to the story that you don't see coming. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I was very disappointed. Instead of an archeological adventure with a smart female protagonist, this book is a Harlequin romance-like sappy love story with a naïve and clueless heroine.
Dr. Isabella Mumphrey is supposed to be a child-prodigy archaeology professor. Unfortunately, instead of her being smart, strong, and sassy, Isabella is dull and dumb (and I really hate it when the female main character is dumb). She travels alone to a third world country wearing a tank top and no bra (really?). She takes off for the dig site with a guy who merely claims to be her guide, no qestions asked. For a person in a research profession, she is incredibly uninformed, and embarrassingly and insultingly naïve.
The plot relies heavily on coincidence. Her guide just happens to be an undercover DEA agent, who just happens to be after drug dealers who just happen to be camping out next to the dig site. One awfully big coincidence.
The plot is boring. The author throws many plot ploys that instead of adding interest and intrigue, just muddle the story line. We have the paranormal, ancient civilizations, artifact thieves, drug dealers, spies, madmen, human sacrifices, the rain forest, bats. Yes, I know the book is fiction. But unless the book is classified as Fantasy, I really would like it to be somewhat plausible. And as is expected in Harlequin romance-like books, the two fall madly in love and have unprotected sex after knowing each other for a few days. Yawn.
What could have been and should have been a great adventure through the jungle to an ancient ruin was instead trite, predictable, and boring.
I've enjoyed Paty Jager's westerns and Nez Perce books, but this is my favorite. The quick pace with twists and turns kept me guessing--although I had suspicions. Isabella is a delightful heroine, both naive and worldly at the same time. Tino Kosta is too hunky for Isabella or the feminine readers to resist. I would never want to visit Guatemalan jungles (icky snakes and insects), but I have long enjoyed reading about the Mayans and their culture. This book was such a treat and I look forward to the next in the series!
I was hoping for more with this book, but it didn't really deliver. I found the scheme of the villains to be less than believable and certainly not compelling. The romance was fine except for the parts where the characters make decisions for the other person without consulting or discussing the issues at all. While that sort of misunderstanding is used to create tension in a lot of stories, I find it annoying. I was also hoping for more authenticity in the archaeology behind the story, but that was lacking. The book was okay, but never really grabbed me, unfortunately.

The Mayan culture content was a bit light, but the focus of this book was romance and adventure, which the author most certainly provided!
